Relationship and Sex Education
Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) is the foundation of the Personal Development Curriculum, focusing on providing students with the life-skills that will enable them to make informed decisions and protect themselves against harmful and exploitative situations and how to form healthy relationships. RSE is therefore essential in safeguarding students.
The curriculum for RSE follows the requirements set out in statutory guidance. The curriculum is age-appropriate and builds upon the knowledge each year. As many of our students enter the school at different times throughout the year, they will have varied knowledge of PSHE topics. The curriculum is therefore structured as a spiral curriculum:
What will students learn?

Breakfast club schedule
As PSHE is at the heart of everything we do at TRS, students have daily topics that are discussed which are linked to real life scenarios

RSE is delivered by a combination of trained colleagues, local partners and guest speakers which have included:
- • We are with you – substance Misuse
- • St Giles Trust – Gangs and county lines
- • Maidstone Sexual Health Clinic- Contraception
- • The British Red Cross – Youth First Aid
Our Personal Development Curriculum aims to help pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives, now and in the future. These skills and attributes help pupils to stay healthy, safe and prepare them for life and work in modern Britain. Our full detailed aims can be found in our PSHE policy.
