• Business and Enterprise at The Rosewood School

    The Business and Enterprise course is designed to empower pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to participate actively in the world of work and entrepreneurship. This course aims to show them how business and enterprise can be accessible, creative and relevant to their lives.

    Through practical learning, real-world examples and opportunities to design their own business concepts, pupils learn how they can shape their own futures, contribute positively to their communities and broaden their cultural and economic capital. The course is structured to deliver the full breadth of the NCFE Business and Enterprise specification, ensuring pupils gain a solid foundation in enterprise skills, business planning, marketing, finance and evaluation.

    In Business and Enterprise at the Rosewood, we cultivate confidence through pitching ideas and presenting business concepts, fostering creativity through exploration of real-world enterprises, and promoting perseverance by guiding students through the challenges of planning, developing and refining their own business proposals. The subject instils problem-solving, resilience and financial awareness, shaping students to engage actively and responsibly in the modern economy.

  • NCFE Technical Award in Business and Enterprise

This vocational qualification offers an introduction to business and enterprise, focusing on planning, finance, marketing, and running a small business. The NCFE Technical Award combines internally assessed coursework with externally assessed elements, catering to different learning styles. It equips pupils with real-world knowledge and skills highly valued in today’s economy. The NCFE Technical Award in Business and Enterprise gives pupils a chance to learn about business in a really practical way. Instead of just exams, it includes some coursework where pupils get to work on real-life tasks, which makes the learning more hands-on. This course helps build important skills like planning, problem-solving, and working with others — skills that are useful no matter what path they choose in the future. It’s a great way to discover how businesses work and prepares pupils for further study or jobs in business and beyond.

This is a vocational qualification with two components:

Unit 1: Introduction to Business and Enterprise

  • Internal assessment (coursework/project-based)
  • • Weighting: 60% of final grade
  • • Assessed through tasks set and marked by the school, externally moderated

Unit 2: Understanding Resources for Business and Enterprise Planning

  • External assessment (written exam)
  • • Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
  • • Weighting: 40% of final grade
  • • Set and marked by NCFE
