The name Bulunga is primarily of African origin, specifically from the Zulu people of South Africa. In Zulu, "Bulunga" can be interpreted to mean "creator" or "shaper." It often carries connotations of strength, leadership, and someone who brings things into existence or molds them into a desired form. Given its meaning, it is a name that reflects high aspirations for the bearer. Bulungula is also a place in South Africa near Coffee Bay, so a very fitting name for a coffee shop.
Bulunga is the onsite café at our Leybourne school which is open to the public. It is set amongst the woodlands of Leybourne chase and is popular with dog walkers. The café is run by our pupils and serves hot and cold drinks, hot pastries and cakes made by Rob, the school chef.
The experience of working in the café and engaging with customers helps our pupils increase their self confidence and communication skills, and provides them with L2 Health & Hygiene, Customer Service and Barista Certificates which they can use in the world of work.
By supporting Bulunga you are helping our pupils learn important life skills that will help them in the future and feel good about themselves. The Café is not for profit, the aim is simply to encourage and support interactions, so please take time to speak to our pupils and enjoy your time and coffee!
