Within Key Stage 4 at the Rosewood School, we strive to engage all pupils in mathematical learning, in practical and creative ways, through a broad curriculum, in order to plug any gaps that they might have. We work with each individual to develop their understanding of all aspects of mathematics including: number, geometry, algebra and statistics. Our curriculum develops critical thinking and problem solving skills and the ability to apply mathematical concepts to real-life situations. We ensure that all pupils have opportunities to develop their skills independently but also encourage collaborative work, where appropriate.
The Key Stage 4 curriculum covered is in line with the Pearson/Edexcel GCSE specification. At the end of Year 11, pupils will sit three separate papers. Each paper has 80 marks and is 1 hour 30 minutes long. A scientific calculator is required for the second and third papers. Pupils will either be entered for the Foundation or Higher tier.
What will pupils learn?

How will pupils be assessed?
Pupils will be assessed through a combination of formative and summative methods, designed to reflect their knowledge and understanding in a meaningful way.
These will include:
- • Participation in lessons. Teachers will check and support individuals with any gaps in knowledge
- • Weekly skills checks personalised for individuals, focussing on different mathematical skills and concepts (Year 10)
- • Termly assessments. In Year 11 these will include mock exams that will take place in January
- • Quizzes and knowledge checks (including the use of diagnostic testing)
- • Self and peer assessment
- • Feedback on independent or group tasks: “Pink for think”
