Music at TRS is a vital part of our holistic curriculum. Led by a specialist music tutor, pupils are supported to explore, express, and heal through sound, creativity, and performance. In our safe, nurturing environment, music becomes a pathway to confidence, connection, and personal growth.

Across Key Stage 3, pupils experience:

  • • Practical music-making — using voice, instruments, and technology to bring musical ideas to life.
  • • Collaborative performance — ensemble work, sharing musical ideas, and learning to support one another.
  • • Creative composition & improvisation — encouraging risk-taking, experimentation, and personal expression.
  • • Listening & contextual understanding — exploring music’s role in communities, cultures, and individual lives.

Because many of our pupils face challenges with health, wellbeing or social disadvantage, our specialist-led music lessons are adapted to individual needs, helping to fill gaps in confidence and experience. Music becomes more than a subject: it supports emotional development, resilience, and creative identity.

We believe that every pupil has something to say through music. Whether preparing for mainstream reintegration or a new educational path, our musical experiences help pupils find their voice, build confidence, and carry forward a lifelong love of artistic expression.
