At Key Stage 3, our Classics curriculum at The Rosewood School offers pupils a rich and exciting introduction to the ancient worlds of Greece and Rome. Through myth, literature, language, and history, pupils explore the stories, beliefs, and daily life of classical civilisations that continue to shape the modern world. From epic heroes and legendary battles to Latin phrases and archaeological discoveries, pupils develop critical thinking, cultural awareness, and a love of learning that spans subjects and centuries.
Pupils study units drawn from the GCSE and A Level Classical Civilisation specifications, giving them the opportunity to explore topics such as women in the ancient world and myth and religion. In addition, pupils work towards AQA Unit Awards in Egyptology and Norse Mythology, broadening their understanding of ancient cultures and belief systems.
In Term 6, pupils follow the KS3 History curriculum with a focus on British history. They explore the people, events, and ideas that have shaped the nation over the centuries. From the Tudors and the Industrial Revolution to the World Wars and the historical origins of witchcraft, pupils examine key turning points and their lasting impact on modern Britain.
Through research projects, debates, creative writing, and source analysis, pupils investigate themes such as power, protest, innovation, and identity.
