We use diagnostic testing to make sure every child has the best chance to succeed. These quick, low-stakes checks help us understand what your child already knows and where they might need a little extra support. By identifying any gaps early on, we can adapt our lessons to match each pupil’s ability and build on their strengths. We also repeat content using 'low-stakes' tasks and questioning, so pupils revisit key ideas often. This not only acts as built-in revision but also helps knowledge stick for the long term. Our approach means no one is left behind, every child is challenged to aim higher, and all pupils gain the confidence and ambition to reach their full potential.

Level 7 Access Arrangements Assessor

We want every child to have a fair chance to show what they can do in lessons and exams. To help with this, we have a qualified Level 7 Access Arrangements Assessor.

Their role is to:

  • Carry out specialist assessments to understand if a pupil has particular learning needs, such as difficulties with reading, writing, or processing information.
  • Provide clear reports that may support access arrangements (for example, extra time or use of a reader), making sure these reflect the pupil’s usual way
  •    of working in class.
  • Work closely with teachers, our SENCo, and families so that any recommendations are understood and put into practice.
  • Ensure that all assessments are carried out carefully, fairly, and in line with national guidance.

Further testing

For pupils who arrive at The Rosewood School without prior attainment data, we will use CAT4 testing to establish a starting point. For those with identified or suspected reading difficulties, we will use the EXACT assessment to determine reading age and highlight specific areas of support.
