What is AV1?

AV1 is a telepresence robot developed by No Isolation. It enables pupils unable to attend school to:

  • • Access live lessons in their classroom
    • Interact with teachers and peers
    • Maintain friendships and social connections

How it works

  • AV1 sits in the pupil’s classroom and can move between lessons or outside. Pupils connect securely via the AV1 app (on tablet/iPad).

    • Features:
    • • Two-way audio and one-way video (pupil is not visible)
    • • End-to-end encrypted live stream (no recording or storage)
    • • Works on WiFi or 4G
    • • 6-hour battery life (charged nightly)

Benefits

    • • Promotes inclusion and prevents isolation
    • • Supports academic progress and attendance
    • • Maintains peer connections during absence
    • • Helps ease transitions back into school
    • • Flexible and adaptable to individual needs
    • • Complements medical tuition support
  • Availability of AV1 Robots
    • We currently hold three AV1 robots. These devices are primarily allocated to:
    • • Pupils on roll at our school, or
    • • Pupils referred to us, where we determine the use of an AV1 is appropriate.
  • Decisions regarding allocation will be made on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the individual needs of the pupil and the capacity of our provision.

    Guidance for Other Schools

If your school wishes to explore the use of an AV1, we recommend contacting No Isolation, who provide AV1 robots directly to schools across the UK.
